G13 is the parent: an indica that Leafly rates mostly calming, with sleepy as its top effect, where G13 Haze is rated mostly energizing and reported as euphoric and giggly.1,2 In state labs G13 tests higher: 24.17% median THC across 97 tests, against 20.30% for G13 Haze from only 14 tests, a small sample.3

Different strains, counted separately

In state lab records the two never overlap: 14 strictly matched flower tests of G13 Haze against 97 of G13, whose middle half runs 16.40%–27.43% against 19.98%–21.86% for G13 Haze.3 Among the 117 near-miss results excluded from G13’s own count were 18 labeled "G13 × Hawaiian Sativa Trim", the cross Barney’s Farm names for G13 Haze, sold as trim under the parents’ names.3,4 Leafly shows 1,224 reviews for G13 and 222 for G13 Haze.1,2

The legend they share

Both names trade on the story that G13 was bred in a US government program at the University of Mississippi and liberated by a technician. High Times states it as fact, Leafly says “according to some accounts”, and Weedmaps says almost none of it can be proven; the earliest dated version is Neville’s 1987 catalog, which says “reputedly” (see history).1,6,8,9
